how does light intensity affect the rate of photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is an indispensable reaction used to produce carbohydrates in higher plants. A high photosynthetic ability is necessary for healthy plant growth and the production of fruit with a high quality. It is known that photosynthetic ability is decreased by higher temperatures. Under such conditions, tree growth and fruit quality deteriorate (, ). Tomato yield was positively correlated with the photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, and stomatal conductance (). Thus, it is important to elucidate the relationship between temperature and photosynthetic characteristics for the stable production of high-quality fruit in a given fruit species. Chlorophyll fluorescence measurements are used for the clarification of photosynthetic characteristics. Light energy is used to drive the photochemical reaction in photosystem II (PSII). However, unused energy is released as heat dissipation and chlorophyll fluorescence. Chlorophyll fluorescence is measured by this reaction. Chlorophyll fluorescence measurements combined with gas exchange measurements can be used to comprehensively estimate the photosynthesis reaction and ability. Furthermore, they can be used for the evaluation of heat tolerance in several plants (; ).

Photosynthesis consists of light-dependent and light-independent reactions.

Farmers can use their knowledge of these limiting factors to increase crop growth in greenhouses. They may use artificial light so that photosynthesis can continue beyond daylight hours, or in a higher-than-normal light intensity. The use of paraffin lamps inside a greenhouse increases the rate of photosynthesis because the burning paraffin produces carbon dioxide, and heat too.

how does temperature affect the rate of photosynthesis?

In this experiment we were told that we would be measuring the rate of photosynthesis.

Hypothesis:Photosynthesis is a process by which green plants and certain other organisms use the energy of light to convert carbon dioxide and water into the simple sugar glucose....

Prediction : I predict that as I increase the distance between the light source and the Canadian Pondweed (reducing the light intensity), the volume of oxygen produced within the time limit (the measure of the rate of photosynthesis) will decrease.

In practice, any one of these factors could limit the rate of photosynthesis.

Introduction: "Photosynthesis is the conversion of light energy to chemical energy that is stored in glucose or other organic compounds; it occurs in plants, algae, and certain prokaryotes" (Campbell, G-16).

6CO + 6H O = C H O + 6O The factors that effect the rate of photosynthisis are the amount of light, the amount of carbon-dioxide (CO ) and the temperature that can be used by the plant....

Photosynthesis need light to work, so light therefore should speed up the rate of photosynthesis.

The effect of temperature on photosynthesis 1

Background information: Photosynthesis Photosynthesis is the process of autotrophs turning carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates and oxygen, using light energy from sunlight.

Effect of color on photosynthesis rate safess.

For photosynthesis to occur, plants need: · Light energy from the sun · Chlorophyll to absorb light energy · Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and from respiration in plant cells · Water which is absorbed by the roots and transported to the leaves by the xylem tubes....

BBC - GCSE Bitesize: Factors affecting photosynthesis

I will measure the rate of photosynthesis by counting the number of bubbles that are released by the stem of the pond-weed when the lamp is shone on it from different distances.

Factors affecting the rate of photosynthesis

Photophosphorylation is the production of ATP using the energy of sunlight. Photophosphorylation is made possible as a result of chemiosmosis. Chemiosmosis is the movement of ions across a selectively permeable membrane, down their concentration gradient. During photosynthesis, light is absorbed by chlorophyll molecules. Electrons within these molecules are then raised to a higher energy state. These electrons then travel through Photosystem II, a chain of electron carriers and Photosystem I. As the electrons travel through the chain of electron carriers, they release energy. This energy is used to pump hydrogen ions across the thylakoid membrane and into the space within the thylakoid. A concentration gradient of hydrogen ions forms within this space. These then move back across the thylakoid membrane, down their concentration gradient through ATP synthase. ATP synthase uses the energy released from the movement of hydrogen ions down their concentration gradient to synthesise ATP from ADP and inorganic phosphate.

Effect of Temperature on Photosynthesis Characteristics in ..

The light-independant reactions of photosynthesis occur in the stroma of the chloroplast and involve the conversion of carbon dioxide and other compounds into glucose. The light-independent reactions can be split into three stages, these are carbon fixation, the reduction reactions and finally the regeneration of ribulose bisphosphate. Collectively these stages are known as the Calvin Cycle.
